If you’re looking for clubs, bars, and stunning beaches with perfect weather year-round, this island is the place to be.

But don’t forget to take a detour into the charming Old Town – with its Mediterranean-style buildings, you’ll feel like you’re in Portugal. And if you need a break from the hustle and bustle during your Phuket vacation, the island offers plenty of quiet beaches and coves for relaxation and tranquility on your vacation to Asia.

Getting There and Flights to Phuket

To get to your hotel in Phuket, you’ll need to take a flight to Phuket. You can book a flight to Bangkok and then travel to Phuket via the well-developed transportation network. The capital is located about 500 miles north of Phuket. A short bridge connects the peninsula to the mainland. From there, you can take a bus, or you might also opt for the ferry crossing.

Flights to Phuket - Nonstop with Thai Airways

Phuket flights with layovers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Qatar are also available. Additionally, some major US cities offer economy and business class flights to Phuket, Thailand. This is likely the most convenient way to travel from Los Angeles or New York to Phuket. Don’t want the hassle of a layover in Bangkok? Thai Airways has you covered — at least for departures from Los Angeles. The airline offers nonstop direct flights to Phuket, Thailand’s island paradise.

Phuket is also an ideal starting point for easily and quickly reaching other Thai islands in the Andaman Sea.

Entry to Phuket

For a Phuket vacation of up to 60 days, entering Thailand is hassle-free without a visa. It’s important to ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months. You also have the option to extend your stay for another 60 days, with the extension fee at the immigration office costing 1,900 Baht. For longer stays, you should apply for a visa before your trip to Phuket.

Important: When entering Thailand, you’ll need to fill out an Arrival Card with personal details and your destination. A Departure Card must also be completed.

The rainy season lasts from May to October. To avoid the heavy rains, it’s recommended to visit Phuket during the dry season, which runs from November to April. During this period, the average temperature is around 29°C.

Highlights: Famous Attractions in Phuket

Phuket is home to numerous famous attractions that will make your visit unforgettable. Here are the top spots to include in your Phuket vacation itinerary:

The Big Buddha Above Chalong Bay

A must-see landmark during your Phuket trip is the Big Buddha, located above the town of Karon in Chalong Bay. Standing at an impressive height of 150 feet, the statue is visible from afar, towering above the surroundings. This grand figure sits atop a temple complex, which you can visit for free. The historic heart of the city is filled with colorful houses, creating a vibrant and charming atmosphere. The narrow streets are lined with small cafés, perfect for a relaxing break.

At the Naka Weekend Market, just outside of Phuket Town, you’ll discover great deals and typical regional delicacies. The market comes alive every Saturday and Sunday, offering plenty of time to wander between the stalls and sample the local food.

Pirate tip: Don’t miss the Sunday Walking Street Market, where you’ll find a fantastic selection of Thai souvenirs. It’s a perfect place to pick up some cute gifts for your loved ones back home.

A Sunset at the Southernmost Point of Phuket

To witness a stunning natural spectacle, head to the southernmost point of the peninsula, Promthep Cape at Laem Promthep. A staircase leads you to the top, where you’ll pass a shrine adorned with elephant statues and a lighthouse that has been converted into a museum. In front of you, the sea stretches out with the nearby islands of Nai Harn Beach and Koh Mun visible on the horizon. This spot offers one of the most breathtaking sunset views on the island, making it an essential visit for anyone looking to enjoy Phuket’s natural beauty.

The Wat Chalong Temple

In Chalong, you’ll visit the largest temple in the region, dedicated to the monks Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang. You can climb up the Chedi – the tall tower of the temple complex – where you’ll have the opportunity to take stunning photos of the temple and make your friends and family envious of your bucket-list adventure.

Culture in Phuket

When thinking of Phuket, most people first imagine its beautiful beaches, but the island is also known for its lush jungles. A visit to the Nai Yang National Park offers a fantastic glimpse into the enchanting nature of the island. You can sample local dishes at the markets or in restaurants, with seafood, rice, and chicken being staples on most menus.

Exploring the Nightlife in Phuket

Phuket’s nightlife offers a variety of experiences, starting with the famous “Phuket FantaSea” show in Kamala. This award-winning performance is held in a colorful theme park with a restaurant and is recognized as the “Best Show in Thailand.”

Another must-see area is Patong, where you can meet new people, dance, and enjoy delicious drinks in multiple clubs. The largest nightclub in the city is the Seduction Nightclub, located on the second floor of the Seduction Complex. Its modern and chic atmosphere particularly attracts a younger crowd, though it’s not ideal for family vacations. The Illuzion Show & Discotheque is also a popular spot for party enthusiasts, featuring House music and performances by guest DJs.

The New Tiger Disco in Patong’s Bangla Road is marked by its large tiger statues. The first-floor ambiance is darker, but it offers live bands performing on a stage at the back of the venue. You can also play billiards at one of the tables. The Red Hots nightclub, known for its live music, features all sorts of bands every evening. There’s even the opportunity to become a guest singer for a night!

As you can see, there are plenty of things to do and see during your Phuket vacation.
