Vacation in Aruba: The Sunniest Caribbean Island

Aruba is part of the Lesser Antilles archipelago and is located in the Caribbean off the coast of Venezuela. Aruba is known for having an ideal climate which consists of the most most sunny days in the Caribbean because of trade winds and being below the hurricane belt. The island is politically part of the Netherlands, but has its own currency, the Florin. In Aruba, English and the local Papiamento are spoken alongside Dutch. A vacation in Aruba is ideal if you fancy Caribbean white sandy beaches and at the same time appreciate the European influence.

General Information

Aruba is a Caribbean island located about 16 miles off the coast of Venezuela. Part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the island is famous for its arid landscape and constant sunshine. The official language is Dutch, but English and Spanish are widely spoken, as is Papiamento, a local Creole language.

Aruba's climate is one of its greatest strengths: the average temperature is around 82°F throughout the year, with little seasonal variation. In addition, the island is outside the hurricane zone, making it a safe and reliable vacation destination.

Entry Requirements for Aruba

US passport holders can visit Aruba for up to 90 days without a visa. You will, however, also need an ED (Embarkation & Disembarkation card) to travel to Aruba. You'll need to declare and provide evidence of a return ticket out of Aruba. Additionally, since July 2024, a $20 Sustainability Fee is required to be paid by every visitor arriving by air.

Traveling to Aruba

Aruba's major airport is Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) in Oranjestad. You can find great-value flights from several US airports. Budget airlines, Spirit and Frontier even fly here for a very low price. One of the most affordable US airports to fly out of to get to Aruba is Miami International Airport (MIA).

Currency

The official currency of Aruba is the Aruban Florin (AWG), but the US dollar is widely accepted. Major credit cards are accepted in most shops, restaurants, and hotels. ATMs and money changers are easily accessible throughout the island.
