Explore Miami: between Ocean Drive and the Everglades
When you decide to visit Miami, you've booked yourself a vacation in the sun - more precisely, to Florida, the so-called "Sunshine State." With strong Cuban influences from generations of Cuban immigrants, the 1.5 million acre wetlands preserve that is the Everglades National Park, and famously wild nightlife, Miami offers plenty to explore for an exciting city trip.

What does Miami have to offer?
Although Miami is known for its glorious weather and perfect beaches, the city offers so much more.
Shopping in Miami
The Aventura Mall brings together high-fashion brands such as Louis Vuitton and Cartier as well as more mainstream labels under one roof. More glamorous is the Design District. There, numerous luxury brands and designer stores have set up shop on the border with the Upper Eastside.
Our pirate tip: Perfect for getting your hands on everyday gear is Lincoln Road in South Beach. There you will find one flagship store after another. Beachwear is available at Bikini Village or Beach Bunny.
Food and drink
Diners and burger joints can be found on every corner, but it pays to look for something special: Miami is heavily influenced by Creole cuisine! For example, Naomi's Garden Restaurant & Lounge serve authentic crawfish and crabcakes.
In addition to the ubiquitous freshly-squeezed orange juice, limes from the Key Islands are one of Florida's specialties. Should you come across Nellie & Joe's Key Lime Juice in the supermarket, grab it! And if you get a chance, sample some Key Lime Pie.
Palm Beach Hotel's Essencia restaurant serves herbs and fruits from the restaurant's own garden. The kitchen is supplied by local companies and offers local and seasonal dishes, even for breakfast.
Nightlife in Miami
In Miami, a day at the beach is synonymous with partying. That's why South Beach is not only a beach zone, but also a party hotspot. You'll find exclusive clubs like the Mansion or chill lounges and bars.
Relax in Midtown or Wynwood. Here hipsters take the reigns. They have mastered dancing and partying as well as cocktails and the pervasive latte macchiato—for proof, just go check out the live music at one of the numerous music bars.
Excursions around Miami
Miami's main draw is the many stunning beaches in the area: Lummus Park Beach on Ocean Drive, Haulover nudist beach, or Pelican Island.
The mangrove swamp of the Everglades begins just beyond Miami in the interior. The Everglades is classified as a national park and is thus strictly protected. Various providers offer day trips from Miami.
However, it's much easier to organize a trip to the island chain of the Keys on your own. The islands are connected by bridges and there are hourly buses from Miami to Key West. However, the travel time is just under 5 hours, so you should plan an overnight stay.
Art in Miami
Absolutely worth seeing and a great photo opportunity are the Wynwood Walls in the eponymous district. Wynwood's industrial history inspired well-known graffiti artists to embellish entire streets.
