Step 1: Book open-jaw flights to Portugal — this means you want to book flights from your US city TO Lisbon and BACK FROM Porto, as exemplified below using flights from New York City.
Step 2: Book your hotel stays in Lisbon and Porto. The best value we found was for a 3-night stay at the Pensao Praca da Figueira in Lisbon and a 3-night stay at the iStay Hotel in downtown Porto.
Keep in mind that different dates will have different prices, and there may be other hotels for better value if you change your dates.
Step 3: Book travel between Lisbon and Porto.
Rent a car if you're looking to stop and start as you please. The train ride (under 4 hours) is probably the nicest way for a scenic trip, but you can also book a flight (LIS to OPO).
