✈️ The cheapest fares we found are out of New York at $456 round trip on low-cost carriers — that's a bit below the normal fares we usually see in the $600s. Unless combining with other Italian regions, you'll want to fly into either Bari or Brindisi.

The Grand Hotel La Chiusa di Chietri in Apulia has a 4/5 rating on TripAdvisor.

Pirate Tips 🏴☠️

If you're in the area, we'll take the chance right away to give you some tips along the way.

  • Alberobello is a fantastic, cute village. Definitely don't miss the trulli village, but don't visit during the hottest midday sun, as there is very little shade and a lot of stone. It is best to go in the morning or late afternoon.

  • Since Alberobello is a small village, you will have explored the area quickly. But that doesn't matter! Puglia offers you a lot of beautiful places and beaches that you can easily explore from Alberobello.

  • Locorotondo, for example, is a small town about 15 minutes by bus from Alberobello. It is located on the top of a hill and I built in a circle around it. There you will be enchanted by white houses and small, narrow streets. What I particularly liked: the city does not seem to be so well known and therefore does not expect the whole turbulent tourist rush.

  • This one could be a little more time-consuming with the public transport, but Matera is definitely worth a visit when you're in Apulia. We've all been to mazes, but Matera is basically real-life, "naturally-ocurring" labyrinth. Besides the exciting architecture of the houses built in stone and beautiful viewpoints, everything feels unique in Matera

  • Beaches, beaches, beaches!!! Of course, beaches in Puglia should not be forgotten. The closest towns you can reach from Alberobello are at Monopoli, Polignano a Mare and Bari, but all along the coast you will generally find great beaches & gorgeous water.

  • The bus system can be quite a challenge at the beginning, but Google Maps shows you a very accurate description of how to get from A to B by bus and train. The price of local bus tickets is unbeatable — for a 1h trip you often pay only around 3€, and are often not even bound to a specific connection. If the local buses are too much of a challenge for you, there are also trains.

Have fun planning your vacation!
