Spring break is normally the time of the year when college students pack their bags and head south to warmer weather. This year, however, looks a little different. While many universities have canceled spring break altogether, one university in California has has offered grants to students who stay.

In an effort to help curb the spread of COVID-19, UC Davis will grant $75 to 2,000 students who stay local this spring break, which runs from March 22 — 25.

In order to qualify for the Healthy Davis Together Spring Break Grant, Students must stay in Davis for the duration of spring break and schedule a COVID test during that time. Students can spend the grant money at local shops and businesses. Eligible students were asked to submit a their grant proposal on Wednesday. UC Davis originally thought to offer only 500 of the grants, however the response was so large that the university decided to expand the number of grants to 2,000.
