Are you ready to grab your family and escape life for a little bit, but don’t know where to go? In honor of Earth Day, we've rounded up the perfect list of family-friendly, passport-free vacation ideas for you!

Details

1. Red River, New Mexico

If you want to head off the beaten path and reconnect with nature, then head to Red River, New Mexico, where there are tons of fun family activities for all! With plenty of opportunities for hiking, fishing, horseback riding and hitting the local shops, you'll be sure to have a relaxing, but eventful vacation with your spouse and kids.

2. Black Hills, South Dakota

The Black Hills really do have a little something for everybody. Whether your young or old, prefer nature or the city, this place has it all! Not to mention, there’s a growing winery scene for the grown-ups in the group.

3. Sunriver, Oregon

While many of you probably connect this particular state with fond childhood memories of the classic video game Oregon Trail, you can skip the part where you die of dysentery and instead head straight to beautiful Sunriver, Oregon. With tons of fun activities such as kayaking, horseback riding, swimming pools, stargazing and biking, your family will surely be happy and entertained for your entire trip!

4. Spring Lake, New Jersey

Ready to head to the Jersey Shore? Don’t worry, Snooki and the J-Shore crew won’t be trying to force you to GTL with them here. While Spring Lake, New Jersey is located on the Jersey Shore, it is actually 16 miles north of the now infamous Seaside Heights. A nice long weekend in the summer here will give you the opportunity to discover some new restaurants, stroll down the boardwalk, visit the aquarium, and of course lounge on the beach. At Spring Lake, you’ll have plenty of family fun in the sun!

5. Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Want to impress your grumpy, sullen teenagers? Then maybe a trip to Glenwood Springs, Colorado is right for you! Whether you’d like to take a day trip to Aspen for some skiing and snowboarding or you want to go check out an amusement park on a mountain, then you’ll be sure to have a blast. There are also other outdoor activities such as hiking and white water rafting available, so no matter what you do, there's something out there that the whole family can enjoy.

6. Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

What’s in Wisconsin besides cheese, you ask? Well, how about an oasis of family fun for everyone! Not only do the Wisconsin Dells have a wealth of camping areas and beautiful trails for hiking, but it is also home to numerous theme parks and entertainment centers! Your family will be totally tuckered out after this great adventure.

7. Good Ole Fashioned Cross Country Road Trip

Everyone knows that no childhood would be complete without a good old-fashioned cross-country family road trip. While we can’t stop your kids from arguing for the consecutive 145th mile about whether the red starburst or the orange starburst is the best flavor — for all of you heathens out there it’s obviously pink— we can suggest some classic destinations to take into consideration.

At the top of the list would be Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, the lesser-known Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, and Glacier National Park. All of them are beautiful and interesting for their own reasons and will be sure to astound the kiddos into potential silence for just a few moments.
