From tomorrow, February 25th, Iceland will lift all coronavirus restrictions, both in-country and at the border. The restrictions will cease to apply to everyone regardless of vaccination status.

Details

Back in January, the Icelandic government had announced that restrictions were not to be removed until mid-March at the earliest. However, due to the very rapid spread of the virus and the mild course of the disease, these changes were accelerated.

Health Minister Willum Þór Þórsson said the main reason for lifting the restrictions altogether is that the spread of COVID-19 has become so common that the restrictions simply no longer work at this stage. However, it is still encouraged to wear masks and maintain social distancing where necessary.

The requirement for testing upon entry into the island will be abolished along with isolating people infected with COVID-19.
