Mateys, who doesn't want to live their best life while on holiday? We've found a luxe castle stay in Ireland that will allow you to live like a king or queen for a weekend. The best part? It's actually quite affordable. The top-rated castle can be booked through Airbnb and comes with its own unique history. Read on to learn more!

Details

Welcome to Tubbrid Castle, a 15th-century tower house. Located in Kilkenny, Ireland, the castle was uninhabited for the last century until it was restored to its former glory. The castle is now available to rent through Airbnb!

Particular care has been put into the restoration to highlight the original features of the castle, so guests will feel as though they've been transported back in time, but with modern luxuries of today.

The main room of the castle acts as the living and dining room. You can have a feast at the grand oak banquet table before curling up with a book or a board game in front of a roaring log fire.

The castle has three bedrooms, each of which is named after an important character in the castle's history.

Located on the 2nd floor, the Rí Ailig bedroom is named after the King of Ulster, whose army camped in Tubbrid in 942 AD on their Circuit of Ireland.

The large room features a king-sized four-poster bed and a goose down duvet. Sip your morning coffee from the room's original window seats as you gaze out to a stunning view of the meadow and forest.

On the ground floor, you'll find the Seomra Sheáin bedroom, named after the owner's father, who began restoring the castle in 2004.

The last bedroom, Leapa Mhaighread is named for Margaret Butler, the 8th Countess of Ormonde. She is said to have erected the tower house and legend holds that she slept at its highest point when she was in residence, to keep her safe from invading enemies.

Our favorite room might just be the bathroom with this gorgeous tub that features some beautiful views of the meadow.

The castle is only 20 minutes from Kilkenny City and 90 minutes from Dublin by car. You'll be able to explore the area quite easily during your stay.

The Airbnb host recommends making the journey to nearby Kilkenny for a leisurely day exploring the city's secret cobblestone lane ways, impressive cathedrals, and magnificent castle, before treating yourself to a pint of the local brew, Smithwicks.

Another option would be a bike ride along the banks of the Nore River. You'll be able to pass through quaint villages like Inistioge.

The castle sleeps up to eight, and you'll have the whole castle and grounds to yourselves.

We've found rates starting from $2,276 USD for a weekend in August. If you book with a group of 8, that's only $142 per person, per night. Not bad for renting a whole castle! We think it would be a great place to rent with family or friends, or even for a special occasion such as a small wedding.

What do you think, pirates? Would you book this castle stay? Let us know in the comments!
