The Most Popular Sights in Berlin

It's impossible to fit in all the sights to see in Berlin in just a few days. Some Berliners themselves, or people who moved to the German capital years ago, have not seen all of the sights in their city. It's impossible But visiting the most popular sights first might not be a bad start, right?

Brandenburg Gate

The Brandenburg Gate is Berlin's central monument. Nobody can ignore it. The Brandenburg Gate and the Pariser Platz with the world-famous Hotel Adlon were once located directly on the inner-German border and are pure history.

📍 S/U-Bhf. Brandenburger Tor

East Side Gallery

Along the Spree in the Friedrichshain district, several hundred feet of the Berlin Wall, which separated East and West Berlin during the Cold War, have been preserved. After reunification, it was painted by artists and the longest open-air gallery in the world was created.

📍 S/U-Bhf. Warschauer Straße or Ostbahnhof

Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie on Friedrichstrasse was one of the crossings from West to East Berlin and connected the Soviet and US sectors; today the border house is a popular photo subject.

📍 Kochstraße subway station

TV Tower at Alexanderplatz

You can see the whole city from the TV tower on Alexanderplatz. At 1,200 feet, it is the tallest building in Germany. At 679 feet, there is a rotating restaurant. If you sit at the table there, you can see Berlin slowly pass by. If the waiting times are too long and the entrance fee is too high, you can go to the Park Inn Hotel opposite and use the cheaper panoramic terrace there.

📍 Alexanderplatz station

Charlottenburg Palace

Charlottenburg Palace with its orangery and palace gardens was originally built as a summer palace for the Hohenzollerns and then expanded in the 18th century in the Baroque style, modelled on the Palace of Versailles. It is the largest palace in Berlin and the palace gardens are popular as a local recreation park.

📍 Bus stop Schloss Charlottenburg or 900m on foot from S-Bahn station Westend / U-Bahn station Sophie-Charlotte-Platz

Teufelsberg

During the Cold War, there was an Allied listening station on Teufelsberg in West Berlin's Grunewald. Today you can visit the lost place—on your own or as part of a historical tour.

📍 S-Bahn station Heerstraße and then 1.4 miles on foot

Diverse & Incomparable: Berlin's Cultural Life

Berlin has a diverse and incomparable cultural life. In the capital there are large and small theaters, countless museums, modern and historic cinemas. In summer you can even watch films outside in open-air cinemas (Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, Hasenheide, Rehberge, Potsdamer Platz and many more!). Enjoy the time outside and snack on popcorn while an old classic, blockbuster, or unknown independent film flickers across the screen.

Berlin also proves that museums don't have to be boring. Did you know, for example, that the capital has a spy museum, a computer games museum, or a Ramones museum? The classics, on the other hand, are more likely to be found on Museum Island, where there are five of them. It's not just the exhibits on site that are impressive, but also the building complex itself. As you can see, the museum landscape is as diverse and colorful as Berlin.
