Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the most famous symbols of Paris. Unfortunately, the fire that broke out on April 15, 2019, caused significant damage to this famous temple. The roof collapsed, the vaults were damaged, and the 19th-century spire was destroyed. In addition, the cathedral lost its unique acoustics.
Since then, for almost 5 years, the facility has been closed to visitors. Due to the coronavirus pandemic and in connection with the preparatory work, the actual reconstruction of the cathedral began 2 years after the fire broke out and the temple was closed. However, reconstruction work is progressing promisingly, which will soon allow the reopening of this historic site.
French President Emmanuel Macron initially announced that the reconstruction was to be completed before the start of the Summer Olympics. Which will take place from July 26th to August 11th, 2024 in Paris.
Ultimately, however, the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral is scheduled to take place only after the Olympics, at the end of this year, specifically on December 8th, 2024. The long-awaited opening of the Notre Dame Cathedral is fast approaching.
The celebrations related to the opening of the cathedral after renovation are to last for 8 days. There is a different ceremony planned each day. It will take place, among others: "awakening" of the cathedral organ and the first service.
