The FIFA World Cup will take place between November 20th and December 18th, 2022. However, the entry ban has been extended further, from November 1st, 2022 with no end date specified.

According to the travel.state.gov website, to enter Qatar during this time you must apply for a Hayya Card, which is a form of Fan ID, which you will need to be able to enter the country during the tournament period. (It will also give you access to free public transport on match days.)

You can only apply for the Hayya Card if you have a ticket to a match.

Requirements for entry:

  • World Cup ticket

  • Booked hotel accommodation

Further requirements: Proof of a negative covid test

  • PCR test certificate with a negative result valid for 48 hours

or

  • Rapid Antigen test certificate valid for 24 hours ahead of the scheduled departure time of the flight to Qatar

  • Proof of vaccination is no longer required as of September 4th

If you have tickets for the World Cup, we strongly recommend booking your hotels early.
