Pride Parades in the US

Pride month is celebrated throughout the US in many cities during June, and the scale goes from small demonstrations to large celebrations depending on the location.

Although we would love to mention and give space to all of these cities, we are highlighting three note-worthy destinations for anyone looking to have a jolly good time.

New York City

Let's start at the very beginning! As mentioned above: Pride Parades started as both a celebration and commemoration of the Stonewall Uprising, which happens to sit on Christopher Street in New York's West Village.

With all this background, it comes as no surprise that New York holds one of the most iconic and largest parades in the US, with an incredible size of around two million attendees each year.

Date: Sunday, June 30th, 2024

San Francisco

The city of San Francisco holds one of the largest and most prominent LGBTQ+ communities throughout the US and receives an incredible one million attendees each year for not a one, but a two-day festival.

If you are not into crowds, the city holds different events throughout the entire month of June.

Date: June 29th & 30th, 2024

Provincetown

Though probably a smaller scale than some of the other destinations on this list, this seaside town on Cape Code's northside is one of the most open places across the US and the perfect destination for all those looking for a more relaxed pace.

Along with Pride, Provincetown hosts many large LGBTQ-friendly events.

Date: May 31st through June 2nd, 2024

Biggest Parade in the World - Sรฃo Paulo

Yes! You read that right, Sรฃo Paulo holds the Guinness Record for the largest pride parade in the world, with three to five million attendees each year.

The parade takes place in Avenida Paulista, one of the city's most iconic areas, and has become a truly global event with people traveling from all over for a chance to attend.

Date: May 29th through June 2nd, 2024

In popular culture, you might have seen a glimpse of the parade during an episode of Netflix's series Sense8, with all the main cast participating in the celebrations.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

I had the pleasure of attending a few years back; it's really incredible how the whole city celebrates, and let me tell you, this is one for the books!

The Pride Parade happens on the canals, but street parties and several events are held throughout the city center for an entire week.

The festivities attract a few hundred thousand visitors each year.

True to the word 'celebration,' Sydney; hosts a Mardi Gras each year and was the host for the 2023 World Pride event, which lasted for 17 days.
