Ice Castles is returning to North Woodstock, New Hampshire, for the 2026–27 winter season! The company confirmed on October 14 that its White Mountains location will once again feature frozen tunnels, towers, slides, and caverns glowing with colorful lights. But there's disappointing news for travelers out West. Neither Colorado location is opening this winter, and there's still no word on Minnesota or Edmonton.

Ice Castles ran four U.S. sites and one in Canada last season. This winter, only one location is confirmed so far.
Ice Castles is returning to its longtime home in the White Mountains, near Lincoln. Building it takes weeks, with ice artisans growing, harvesting, and placing tens of thousands of icicles by hand. After dark, colorful lights make the frozen tunnels and towers glow.
Your ticket also includes the Mystic Forest Light Walk and snow tubing hill, so give yourself plenty of time to explore. And if you visit February 26–28, 2027, you can catch the first New England Ice Carving Championships right at the castle.

Neither Colorado location will reopen for the 2026–27 season. According to KOAA, last winter's unusually mild weather led Ice Castles to cut back on locations, while water supply concerns also played a role in Cripple Creek. The company hopes to return to Colorado in a future season.

The Minnesota State Fairgrounds and downtown Edmonton both hosted castles last winter, but neither is confirmed for this season. The Ice Castles homepage currently lists only New Hampshire and says a full locations announcement is coming soon. We'll update this article as new sites are confirmed.

The Lincoln–Woodstock area has plenty of ski lodges, inns, and cozy restaurants, so the castle works well as part of a long weekend with a day on the slopes. Weekday evenings tend to be less crowded, and the castle is at its most dramatic once the lights come on after dark.

Plan for a visit after sunset if you want the full color light show.
Expect bigger crowds during the Ice Carving Championships weekend and school vacation weeks.
With tens of thousands of hand-placed icicles forming its frozen tunnels, archways, and caverns, Ice Castles in New Hampshire is a winter experience worth adding to your bucket list.
A smaller Ice Castles season makes New Hampshire the one confirmed option for anyone hoping to walk through a castle made of icicles this winter. With Colorado out and Minnesota and Edmonton still unannounced, travelers from the Midwest and the Rockies may want to wait for the full lineup before booking.
My family visited the New Hampshire Ice Castles a couple of years ago, and we had such a wonderful time. The slides were a favorite, and my kids still talk about how amazing the ice sculptures were. Seeing it all lit up at night is something photos don’t quite capture.
For New Englanders, it’s well worth the drive up I-93. The Ice Carving Championships add another reason to visit in February, but even without a special event, there’s plenty here to make a memorable winter outing.
