The German government is planning to move ahead with plans to legalize the sale of cannabis.

Legalizing and regulating the industry was one of many progressive reforms promised by the new coalition government under Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

There will be five rounds of expert testimony on the topic, which is the first step on the road to full legalization.

Lawmakers will hear from around 200 experts on topics relating to the industry, including supply chain and addiction issues.

The hope is that the new legislation will be ready before the end of the year.

The social effects of any new legalization will be assessed after four years.
