Despite a thousand controversies, the so-called "vaccine tourism" is already a reality and several countries have tried to offer the Covid-19 vaccine to tourists, such as Dubai, Serbia, Cuba, and Russia. The Maldives just announced that they have just launched the so-called 3 V campaign: "Visit, Vaccinate, Vacation" with the aim of relaunching tourism.

Details

The project was launched by the Maldives Minister of Tourism Abdulla Mausoom in an interview with the American TV CNBC.

There is still no talk of dates because the initiative will start only after all residents of the Maldives have been vaccinated, but the goal does not seem so far away. To date, around 53% of the country’s population has received their first dose, which includes 90% of its front-line tourism workers.

The Maldives hope that their "Visit, Vaccinate, Vacation" initiative will make the destination even more attractive for tourists, since the pandemic has brought a severe decline in tourism to the islands. The Minister of Tourism hopes to reach 1.5 million visitors in 2021. To put this in perspective, they had about a third of visitors in 2020 and currently, have had 350,000 arrivals in 2021.

The Maldives have received the vaccine from India and China, and the number is more than enough to vaccinate the entire population, which means excess doses will be offered to tourists.

We like to remind all pirates that the borders of the Maldives are currently open (with the request for a PCR test 96 hours before arrival).
