Malaysia's National Recovery Council is planning to start the process to open the country's borders to international travelers for the first time since March 2020. Although a specific date has not been given for a full reopening, it is expected to be by January 1st, 2022, at the latest.

Details

Malaysia is planning to gradually reopen its doors to international travelers in the upcoming weeks, and here's what we know so far:

  • On November 29th, Malaysia will be opening a vaccinated travel lane with the neighboring country Singapore to allow travel between both countries.

  • Malaysia will start running a pilot program for fully vaccinated international tourists in Langkawi island, starting November 15th. It has not been announce which countries will participate in this pilot program yet.

  • Travelers will be required a minimum stay of three days, with no quarantine. However, they must present a Negative COVID-19 PCR test 72 hours before departure, along with having the MySejahtera app downloaded on their phones.

  • International Travelers must have minimum insurance of US$80,000.

  • If you are arriving through Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), you will be required to take a Rapid Test at the airport. For those arriving directly to Langkawi island, you will need to take a PCR test on their second day of stay.

Currently, US Citizens require written consent by the Malaysian government or a pass to enter the country.

We will keep updating.
