Cherry blossoms are one of Japan's top attractions when spring comes. These gorgeous pink blossoms - known as sakura - are expected to appear a little earlier than usual this year in various parts of the country. Their flowering depends on the weather conditions preceding the spring, in particular the temperatures of the previous fall.

Details

Flowering forecast for 2021:

The Japanese meteorological company has prepared the flowering forecast for 2021. The predictions are for cherry blossoms to start in Tokyo on March 15 with full bloom on March 23. In Nagoya flowering will begin on the 16th and reach its peak on March 26th. In Kyoto, the forecast is for March 17, Osaka for April 20 and Nagano for April 1. Fukuoka and Hiroshima are the first cities to see their cherry blossoms last week, on March 11.

These forecasts are important as the observation generally lasts only one or two weeks.

Why is the Sakura season so important in Japan?

Cherry blossoms have many meanings to the Japanese. The main one has to do with the very short life of these flowers, which only bloom for about 1 to 2 weeks.

Their fleeting beauty perfectly illustrates the fact that nothing in this world is permanent, everything disappears at some point. A sad yet beautiful consideration that has been part of the Japanese mindset since ancient times.
