The MOMA, Museum of Modern Art in New York — one of the most famous and important museums in the world — is offering eight free, online courses with the MOOC (Massive Online Open Courses) mode. Keep scrolling for more details!
Details
The courses last about 5-6 weeks and mainly consist of videos. They are completely free, with only one optional cost ($49) to receive the course completion certificate at the end.
One of the most interesting classes being offered is the photography course, which to us Pirates seems to be an excellent way to occupy the time we are stuck at home. Perhaps we can all use our acquired photography skills when we are back to traveling!

PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE
The course is held by Sarah Meister, curator of the Photography section of MOMA.

COURSE ON MODERN ART
This course is designed for anyone interested in learning more about modern and contemporary art. Over five weeks, you will see art across a variety of themes: Places and spaces, Art and identity, Transforming everyday objects and Art and society.
Each week begins with a video linking the works of art from the MOMA collection to the theme. You will listen to audio interviews with artists, designers and curators and find out more about the works selected in the readings and additional resources.
Through the suggestions of the discussion forum and the exercises shared and corrected by other participants, you will also have the opportunity to get in touch with other students and explore how these themes resonate with your life and experience.

COURSE ON CONTEMPORARY ART
What is contemporary art? In this course, you will face this question through more than 70 works of art created from 1980 to today, with particular attention to the art of the last ten years. You will hear about the creative processes, materials and sources of inspiration directly from artists, architects and designers all over the world. You will also watch 3D printed glass and fiber sculptures, shows in a factory and museums, painted portraits, as well as those made with artificial intelligence, and interventions on television and video games.

FASHION DESIGN
Of all design objects, clothes are certainly the most universal and intimate. This course focuses on a selection of over 70 garments and accessories from all over the world, ranging from jeans to 3D printed clothes. Through these garments, we will examine closely what we wear, why we wear it, how it is made and what it means. You will hear directly from a number of designers, manufacturers, historians and others who work with clothing every day and, in some cases, reinventing it for the future. Studio visits, interviews and other resources introduce the history and development of each garment and its uses, meanings and impact change over time.
