With so much going on in the world, we totally understand the need to get away. Luckily you don’t have to go very far in order to reset. In fact, domestic travel is on trend for 2021. Whether you choose to go at it solo or bring the whole fam; hit the road to visit neighboring states or go off the grid in the middle of nowhere, 2021 is all about finding what type of travel works best for you. After all, the last thing you need on vacation is to worry about Corona regulations. With so many places to discover across the US, we've made a list of our favorite destinations for 2021.

Details

1. Charleston, South Carolina

Why You Should Visit: Charleston is South Carolina’s oldest city and a beloved destination among travelers. This cute town feels like a step back in time with its cobblestone streets and 18th and 19th-century homes. Come for the history and stay for the southern comfort food. Did we mention they also have beautiful beaches? This city has a little bit of something for everyone.

Best Time to Visit: The most popular time to visit is during spring between March and May because the temperature is so mild. However, hotel rates are also the highest at this time. If you can’t find accommodation in your price range, we recommend going in the fall when the temperature is still nice.

2. The Berkshires, Massachusetts

Why You Should Visit: Want to get away from it all? Head to The Berkshires for a little R & R. The music, dance, and theater festivals that the Berkshires are so well-known for have all been put on hold, however you can still go and enjoy the many hiking trails and breathe in the fresh air.

Best Time to Visit: The summer months are high tourist season as many New Yorkers come here to escape the heat, so we recommend heading there in fall to view the fall foliage while avoiding the crowds and saving a little cash.

3. Calaveras County, California

Why You Should Visit: Untouched by the California wildfires and far less expensive and crowded than Lake Tahoe, Calaveras County is the perfect mountain getaway. Located in the high-sierras in Northern California, Calaveras County is a great place for those who want to explore both nature and culture. Spend the day touring beautiful wineries or hiking in Calaveras Big Trees State Park where you can see the famous giant Sequoias. Hop on over to Angels Camp, famous for its annual Jumping Frog Jubilee which Mark Twain wrote about, or go antiquing in Murphys, a former gold mining town.

Best Time to Visit: We recommend planning your trip for late spring or early summer so you can maximize your time outside.

4. Kauai, Hawaii

Why You Should Visit: We never really need an excuse to visit Hawaii, but If you are looking for a Hawaiian vacation truly away from it all - including the tourists - head to Kauai. Nicknamed the "Garden Island," Kauai is known for being one of the more undeveloped islands. Take a hike through the lush rainforest which covers most of the island or tour the Na Pali Coast to discover dramatic cliffs, hidden caves, and beautiful beaches.

Best Time to Visit: Summer is a great time to visit and you can still find some cheap flights this summer, however fall is off-peak season and will offer better hotel prices, just be aware that the weather could be rainy!

5. Valley of Fire, Nevada

Why You Should Visit: For travelers who have already visited the Grand Canyon or are looking to avoid the crowds, then the Valley of Fire is the perfect spot. The Valley of Fire has 40,000 acres of bright red Aztec sandstone formations, petrified trees, and petroglyphs that date back some 2,000 years. How cool is that? Even better, getting there can be super cheap as well since it is only a 45-minute drive from Las Vegas and you can often find cheap flights into Las Vegas, which makes this trip worthwhile.

Best Time to Visit: Peak visiting times are in the spring and fall when the temperatures are at their best. We recommend skipping the summer season for obvious reasons.

6. Snoqualmie National Forest, Washington

Why You Should Visit: Just a short drive from Seattle, Snoqualmie National Forest is a nature lover's paradise with glacier-covered peaks, scenic mountain meadows, crystal clear alpine lakes, and dense forests. It is the perfect spot to take a relaxing weekend away or a longer vacation to explore the surrounding wilderness.

Best Time to Visit: Whether you are a hard-core survivalist or an inexperienced hiker, Snoqualmie has year-round activities for everyone so any time of the year is a great time to go.

7. Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado

Why You Should Visit: Did you know that the tallest sand dunes in North America are nowhere near the beach but are set amidst grasslands, wetlands, conifer and aspen forests, alpine lakes, and tundra? Located at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Range in southern Colorado, the Great Sand Dunes National Park has a diverse landscape that won't disappoint. Hiking, fishing, swimming, or sand sledding are just a few of the many activities that the park offers.

Best Time to Visit: For cooler weather and fewer crowds go in the spring and fall. However, if you wish to visit when Medano Creek is flowing then go anytime between mid-May and early June.

8. Orlando, Florida

Why You Should Visit: Orlando is a great destination to soak up some sunshine and enjoy some fun at the many theme parks that the city has to offer. Take a trip to "the happiest place on earth" or visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios.

Best Time to Visit: This fall when Disney World celebrates its 50th anniversary.
