Leavenworth was never actually Bavarian. It was a struggling logging town that reinvented itself as an Alpine village in the 1960s, and Christmas has since become one of the biggest reasons to visit. Christmastown runs from November 27 through December 24, with carolers, Santa, gingerbread displays, live music, and plenty of free entertainment around downtown. And since Leavenworth actually sits in the Cascades, there’s a pretty good chance of real snow, which is more than most Christmas towns can claim.

2026 is also a special year to visit, marking 60 years since Leavenworth’s first Christmas Lighting Festival in 1966.
