Only in Finland can you sweat and sightsee at the same time. Hovering above Helsinki’s harbor, SkySauna turns an ordinary Ferris wheel ride into a steamy, sky-high escape. Operated by SkyWheel Helsinki—one of the city’s most iconic landmarks—this one-of-a-kind sauna gondola lets guests relax in gentle steam while watching the harbor and skyline unfold below. It’s proof that there’s truly no place the Finns won’t build a sauna.
In Finland, the sauna isn’t just a place to unwind—it’s a way of life. And in Helsinki, that ritual comes with a view. SkySauna, the world’s first Ferris wheel sauna, combines the calm of a traditional steam room with the excitement of gliding 40 meters above the city.
The private sauna cabin seats up to five people at a time, while larger groups (up to fifteen) can rotate between the sauna gondola, a terrace hot tub, and a private lounge stocked with chilled drinks. Each rotation takes about three minutes, but guests can enjoy unlimited rounds within their booking window.
It’s a surreal yet soothing experience, where modern luxury meets centuries-old Finnish tradition high above the Baltic Sea.
Picture courtesty of SkyWheel
Even if you skip the steam, SkyWheel Helsinki offers the same sweeping harbor views year-round. Standing 40 meters tall beside the Market Square, its glass cabins let you see the best of the capital, from Uspenski Cathedral to the open sea.
A standard ride lasts around twelve minutes, and tickets start at €15 (about $16) for adults and €10.50 (about $11) for children. You can upgrade to a Veuve Clicquot VIP Experience, featuring a private gondola with leather seats, a glass floor, and a bottle of champagne, or choose a Champagne Ride for a shorter celebratory spin.
SkySauna may be the only sauna in the sky, but it’s just one example of Finland’s creativity when it comes to heat. You’ll find saunas floating on boats, tucked underground, and even in ski-lift gondolas across the country.
With more than three million saunas for five-and-a-half million people, “anywhere, anytime” isn’t an exaggeration—it’s a lifestyle. Whether carved into rock, drifting across a lake, or turning slowly over the harbor, the goal is always the same: sweat, cool off, repeat.
