Indonesia has approved a new criminal code banning anyone in the country from having premarital sex.

Unmarried couples will face up to a year in jail if caught and even just living with a partner before marriage could result in up to six months behind bars.

This includes Bali, one of the most popular parts of the country for tourism.

The new law will apply to foreign workers and tourists including travelers from the US. This may make it quite tricky for unmarried couples to check into a hotel together.

However, while the law has been passed, it may take up to three years for the government to implement it.
