Ahoy Pirates! As an LGBTQ+ traveler, one of the first things that cross my mind when visiting somewhere is: 'Is it safe?'. There's also nothing worse than getting to your hotel, expecting a double bed, and finding two separate single beds instead.

We've tried to alleviate that headache for you and compiled a list of the best LGBTQ+ travel spots in 2023!

Malta

This may come as a surprise, but Malta has been ranked as the number one country in Europe for LGBTQ+ travelers for the last seven, yes, SEVEN, years! Scoring a whopping 92% on the ILGA Europe Rainbow Europe index!

What makes it an LGBTQ+ travel spot?

  • Little known fact, Malta is the LEADING country regarding how laws and policies affect the LGBTQ+, even ahead of the UK and Belgium

  • It has been illegal to discriminate against LGBTQ+ people in Malta since 2004

  • One of the few countries in the WORLD to make LGBTQ+ rights equal at a constitutional level

  • Keep in mind that Malta doesn't have many LGBTQ+ exclusive venues; this is more of a relaxing beach vacation than a party location

Canada, O' Canada, what a place to be, especially for those of us in the LGBTQ+! Ranking first in the Spartacus Gay Index, Canada is an internationally renowned safe haven for those in the LGBTQ+ community.

  • HUGE drag scene, particularly in Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto, with some of the world's BEST performers

  • Pride season starts in June, with pride events running across all major Canadian cities up until September 2023
