1. Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains
Most people assume that fall foliage is only in New England, but southern parts of the country have beautiful changing leaves as well. Road tripping through the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia will give you some vibrant colors and much warmer temperatures than up north. Make sure to stop in Helen, Georgia, a mountain-town modeled after a quaint Bavarian village. Brasstown bald will have the best foliage viewing vantage point. Also don’t miss Tallulah Gorge State Park, where in November you can watch expert kayakers brave the rushing rapids.
2. The Berkshires
If you live in New England and have time, make sure to head to western Massachusetts before the end of October. Visit the “Bridge of Flowers”, hike Mount Greylock, and take some photos at Bash Bish Falls. With winding roads that lead to beautiful vistas and small town charm, you won’t be bored.

3. Great Smoky Mountains
Take a trip to this national park during late October/early November to see the vibrant oranges, yellows, and reds. You could kill two birds with one stone and do a road trip through Great Smoky Mountain National Park and Shenandoah National Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway which is 470 miles of beauty.
4. Columbia River Gorge
It’s true that most places north of Pennsylvania are famous for their peak colors, but if those of you on the west coast want to witness some fall beauty, head over to the Columbia River Gorge just outside of Portland. If you’re feeling adventurous afterwards, head to the coast and road trip through the many state parks there. Be sure not to miss Cannon Beach!

5. Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway, New Mexico
This 83-mile loop that starts and ends in Taos, New Mexico is full of fall colors from September through October.

6. Upper Peninsula, Michigan
Grab a group of friends and head on a weekend camping trip to the upper peninsula of Michigan. Pack plenty of layers and venture through the 20+ forested state parks in the area and take some time to unplug.
7. Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri
This area typically hits prime peak colors towards the middle of October, with plenty of opportunities to be outside, go for a bike ride, canoe down the river, or have a picnic.
8. Litchfield, Connecticut
Visit the rolling foothills around this town from late October to early November to experience some beautiful colors. While there, make sure to visit the village of New Preston which is perched above a waterfall on the Aspetuck River.
9. Mendocino, California
You may not think of it right off the bat, but Mendocino offers bright colors from late October through Thanksgiving that will have you thinking you are in New England!
