Far, far south in the land down under, is a small Australian town with year-round sunshine that wants YOU to live there, and will happily pay you $13,000 to do so.

The town is the first Outback Queensland community to come up with the scheme, which was established to help boost the current population and lure people into the Outback.

Quilpie, population 800, is 590 miles west of the Queensland capital of Brisbane and is pretty much the definition of an outback town in Australia. You can go hunting for opal gemstones, check out local museums, or explore the bush at your leisure.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the Homeowners Grant, you must be a new homeowner, build a property worth LESS than $750,000 and live in Quilpie for at least six months.

How Expensive is the Land?

There are plots of land in Quilpie for around $20,000 AUS ($13,000), so this scheme essentially gives people a free plot of land to live on - if you are willing to live in the desert.
