  1. BACARETO DA LELE: Our favorite, especially for lunch! Wine for €1-2 (~$1-$2) a glass and a choice of sandwiches filled with salami, cheese, and vegetables for ONLY €1 (~$1) or so! A stone's throw from Piazzale Roma, very close to the Venice station, don't miss it.

  2. GISLON ROSTICCERIA: A stone's throw from the Rialto Bridge, don't miss the fried foods from Gislon! (we especially recommend the mozzarella in Carrozza). Specializing in various types of Cicchetti, also based on fish, accompanied by excellent local wine: all clearly at very reasonable prices!

  3. OSTARIA DAI ZEMEI: This restaurant has a few tables but a menu with many fish-based dishes, such as spaghetti with squid ink, the best we've ever eaten! Really low prices for a fish restaurant.

  4. WINE CELLARS (Formerly Schiavi): In the Dorsoduro area, this much-loved cicchetteria (without seats) in the heart of the city will blow your mind with its countless cicchetti for €1.50 (~$1.62)

  5. LOST PARADISE: Also located in Cannaregio, in the heart of Venice, it is a historic Venetian tavern that also offers weekly shows and live music, in a very friendly atmosphere. TAVERN AT THE REMER: The most romantic corner of the city (especially at sunset) could be here: don't be intimidated by the fact that it is hidden in the city streets, this place will make you fall in love from the first moment. The Best Restaurants in Barcelona

Barcelona has developed into one of the food metropolises in Europe. The restaurant scene is definitely incredibly diverse and has an incredible amount to offer far beyond tapas.

Reason enough for us to recommend you our top 5 best restaurants in Barcelona, ​​of course not forgetting the extraordinary tapas bars. However, we will take you far beyond that on a culinary journey through the Catalan capital.

  1. LA PEPITA: Tapas interpreted in a modern way and with a creative touch? La Pepita is one of my personal favorites in the city. The restaurant offers a changing menu, on which everything tastes excellent. However, the dishes with tuna and "patatas bravas" (potato wedges with sauce) are our clear recommendation. The shop is quite small and there are usually long queues - we recommend: grab a glass of wine and celebrate the wait in front of the bar while you enjoy one of the mild Spanish nights with friends or loved ones. The restaurant is not cheap, but perfectly adequate for the quality on offer.

  2. SARTORIA PANATIERI: One of the best pizzas in the world? Not in Naples or Rome? What? Sartoria Panatieri produces Pizza Napoletana to perfection. Accordingly, they are of course also listed in the top 50 of the best pizzerias in the world, to be precise, they are number 21done. But we are convinced that this year we can do even better. Jorge Sastre and Rafa Panatieri's restaurant is not only on the food bucket list for pizza lovers. Aside from pizza, you have to try the salami and ham - homemade of course, and perfect as a starter to share. Word gets around about the quality because there are already two restaurants in the trendy district of Gràcia. The shop is also in high demand, so make sure to reserve early.

  3. THE FISH & CHIP SHOP: A dish that you would also expect elsewhere than in Barcelona, ​​but the guys from The Fish & Chips Shop have brought the classic from Great Britain to Catalonia at the highest level. The standard version is made from freshly caught merluza (German: hake), which of course has a noticeable effect on the taste. The fries, as befits good fish & chips, are homemade. Quality prevails, which is why The Fish & Chips Shop now has several restaurants in Barcelona. There is also an offshoot very close to the main beach, la Barceloneta - the perfect meal while visiting the beach.

  4. L'ARTESENA POBLENOU: One of the best menu del medio dia (lunch) in town? L' Artesana Poblenou definitely deserves this positioning. The 3-course menu is available for less than €15, which is extremely good value for the quality on offer. There are classics of Catalan and Spanish cuisine on the plate. The trip to the up-and-coming district of Poblenou is definitely worth it, and after a visit to the restaurant, you can stretch your legs with a short walk to Poblenou Beach.   5. LA COVA FUMADA: This restaurant has been in the family since 1944, making it a real classic (de todo la vida). La Cova Fumada is famous for its traditional Catalan dishes and has particularly good fish tapas on the daily changing menu. The restaurant is quite small and noisy and level typically Spanish - definitely visit and feast on the menu in the district of la Barceloneta, not far from the beach, pirates! There are a few seats on the terrace. The restaurant is only open for lunch, so expect long waiting times at lunchtime. How always in Spain it is worth getting on the mat early and being there before the Spaniards go to lunch.

Tapas are a popular way to spend an afternoon or evening in Spain. These are small dishes that are shared with the entire table.

In short, tapas are an integral part of Spanish food culture and more than just food - namely a way of life. Accordingly, the following tips belong on every foodie bucket list when you are in Valencia - including insider tips from a food lover who has lived in Spain and Valencia for a long time.

  1. TASCA ANGEL: Another classic in the old town of Valencia. The bar is a real traditional business and was founded in the 1920s. On offer are of course "patatas bravas", fried potatoes with a spicy tomato sauce, "calamares a la romana", fried squid rings and "pan con tomate", toasted bread with tomatoes and olive oil. Add a glass of "Vino" (Spanish wine) and a Cerveza Estrella Galicia (a well-known beer brand from Spain) and then simply enjoy the evening to the full, like a real Valenciano.

  2. BODEGA "LA PASCUALA": "La Pascuala" is a real insider tip for everyone who really wants to try bocadillos. A bocadillo is a sliced ​​baguette, which is topped with various ingredients, such as ham, cheese, sausage. In the up-and-coming trendy district of El Cabanyal in the immediate vicinity of the Playa de la Malvarrosa beach, La Pscuala has what are probably the best bocadillos in town. It's worth renting a bike and checking out the really cool city beach.

  3. EL TOSTADERO: Also a bocadillo in the version known from Madrid, bocadillo a la romana - in short: dough-coated squid rings with mayonnaise in a bun. It sounds fancy, and it is - but it just tastes extremely delicious and is also quite cheap. So definitely pay a visit to the Tostadero right in the center of Valencia - perfect for a quick snack and a café solo (espresso in Spanish). Afterwards, you can continue your tour of discovery with fresh energy.

  4. BAR RESTAURANTE ROJAS CLEMENTE: The restaurant offers Spanish market cuisine and a first-class menu del mediodia (lunch) with a total of 3 courses. The restaurant is right next to the market of the same name and it is cooked fresh every day from the daily menu. The classic desserts in particular are a real treat and round off the experience very nicely. In addition, all the fun costs you less than 15€ including a drink - so really not much. Top quality at top prices - have fun with my insider tip in Valencia. Here I have been able to enjoy many wonderful moments with a great lunch menu.
