Eight US states (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin) line the shores of the Great Lakes, while parts of the Canadian province form the rest of the borders with the lakes. The Great Lakes region consists of five major lakes: Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Erie, and Lake Ontario. However, there are also smaller lakes in the area, such as Lake Nipigon, which is connected to Lake Superior through the Nipigon River.
It's impossible to go wrong choosing a lake to visit, as they all have a certain charm. Whether you're taking a hiking trip through the woods, gearing up for an extended cycling trip, trying out mountaineering and water sports, tanning on the shore in the summer, or admiring the picture-perfect snowy landscape in the winter: a trip to the Great Lakes is well worth your time.
