Uzbekistan has begun to reopen its borders to many travelers, but full disclosure, this does not include the US or Canada as of yet. With this reopening, the country is offering a unique proposition to potential visitors. Anybody that catches the Coronavirus while in Uzbekistan will receive $ 3,000. Why? The government is convinced that travel through the country is safe enough that nobody should catch the virus while there.
So far Uzbekistan has reported 19 fatal cases of Coronavirus. The country is safe enough that the government has launched the campaign a campaign guaranteeing safe travel — essentially what it does is promise to pay visitors $ 3,000 if they get they get Corona while there. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev officially announced this at the end of June, clarifying that in case of infection, treatment would cost about $3,000 in Uzbekistan.
To be elegible, travelers must book their trip with a local guide or travel agency. Guides, accommodations, and other tourist destinations will need to receive a certificate from the government confirming that they comply with safety and hygiene guidelines.
