In the north-east of China, located in the Heilongjiang region, bordering Siberia, lies the magical town of Harbin. Why is this remote town so magical, you ask? If you've never heard of the Harbin Ice Festival, then you are in for a real treat!
Harbin is famous for being a town completely built out of ice. Thanks to freezing temperatures reaching as low as -20 degrees in the winter, the city is rebuilt every year by over 7,000 talented builders who create stunning buildings, all out of ice.
Everything — from magical castles and windmills to artistic sculptures and spectacular light displays — is built using ice. It is no wonder this magical city attracts millions of tourists every year. And the city isn't exactly easy to reach. In fact, visiting requires many travelers to venture on a long and complicated journey, making it a definite bucket list destination!
On January 5th, the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival kicked off the new season with fireworks and engaging lighting shows. Unfortunately this year the celebration was not open to the public. However, we are able to stream the festival from the comfort of our sofas. We hope you enjoy the show!
