Take a road trip through Basque Country and see the gorgeous landscapes that northern Spain has to offer. Oh wait, you're here for the Game of Thrones connection? Don't get impatient. We've waited two years for Season 8, after all.
This road trip will take you to several filming locations from HBO's hit series, all important to everyone's favorite Khaleesi, Daenerys Targaryen.
Game Of Thrones Road Trip Timeframe: 12. Apr. 2019 - 30. Nov. 2019
Rent A Car
There are several car options for you to rent during your road trip. If you can drive stick shift, you're in luck, because you can rent a car for as little as $27 for the week.
If you need an automatic transmission, you'll have to pay (the still reasonable) $80 for the week.

Stop 1: Bilbao
For the central hub of your road trip, we suggest this dynamic and cosmopolitan city, known for its unique blend of old and modern architecture. Be sure to visit its Guggenheim Museum while in town.
Stop 2: San Sebastian
Only an hour from Bilbao is the seaside town of San Sebastian. Definitely take a day to relax on its beautiful beach, and make sure to grab some pintxos (sort of the Basque version of tapas) at a bar.
Stop 3: Picos de Europa
These magnificent mountains are roughly three hours from Bilbao. They are almost entirely contained within Spain's first national park. If you choose to hike, keep an eye out for wolves and bears (and we don't mean Starks and Mormonts).
Stop 4: Gorbeia Natural Park
About 45 minutes from Bilbao, this park is perfect for hikers and cyclists. If you visit in the fall, we have a feeling that the forest will remind you of the weirwood trees of Westeros.
Stop 5: San Juan de Gaztelugatxe
If you've seen Season 7 of Game of Thrones, then you will recognize the island of Gaztelugatxe as the site of the Targaryen's ancestral home, Dragonstone. In real life, you can visit a small church with a history dating back 1000 years—and it's just 45 minutes from Bilbao.
Stop 6: Bardenas Reales
This semi-desert region of Spain (about two and a half hours from Bilbao) was a primary filming location for Season 6, where it stood in for the Dothraki sea. When you visit, you'll be sure to see some breathtaking rock formations ... but probably no dragons.
Stop 7: Playa de Itzurun, Zumaia
Drive an hour from Bilbao to reach this rocky yet beautiful beach. It was used in Season 7 as the setting for the Dragonstone beach scenes. One way to access the spot is by walking the Flysch Route, a nine-mile coastal walk with stunning views.
Stop 8: Playa de Muriola
Just 20 minutes north of Bilbao, you can visit this beach in the morning and be back in time for lunch. It was used in Season 7 as the King's Landing beach where Tyrion, Ser Davos, and Gendry make their escape.
