Wanna Hit the Beach with Your Pooch? Check Out These Five Dog-Friendly Spots!
Looking to hit the beach and want to bring your furry friends along with you? Then we’ve got a list of the top five dog-friendly and leash-free beaches for you! Don’t worry about having to leave Fido home this summer, bring him along for the journey and don’t forget to bring treats.
1. Rosie’s Dog Beach - Los Angeles, CA
Ready for a playdate with all your furry pals? Well, if you’re in LA then Rosie’s is the place to be! This is the only off-leash dog beach in the Los Angeles County area, which makes it perfect for puppy play dates, games of catch, and swimming galore. There’s also plenty of parking available as well as dog-specific amenities and you can learn more about that here.
2. Fort De Soto Dog Beach Park - Saint Petersburg, FL
This next beach is fun for dogs and human companions too! This Saint Petersburg beach boasts separate fenced-in areas for large and small dogs, sections of off-leash beaches so puppies can go for a swim, and hoses for washing your dog off and giving fresh water. Plus, for the humans in the group, there are great camping sights, picnic areas, beautiful parks, and an old Spanish fort to explore. What more could you ask for?
3. Assateague National Seashore - Berlin, MD
This beach is nestled right inside a national park and is a great place to take your pups for some fun in the sun. Generally, dogs are supposed to stay on a six-foot leash at all times, but there are some allowances for off-leash activity when swimming in the ocean.
It’s also very important to note that dogs are only allowed to be on the Maryland portion of the Assateague National Seashore and are not permitted on the nature trails or within the Virginia portion of Assateague Island.
4. 8th Ave Dog Beach - Asbury Park, NJ
If you’re in the shore and looking to have a fun day frolicking in the waves with your pup, then 8th Ave Dog Beach is the place to go! Dogs are allowed to romp freely off-leash and there are even some dog-friendly restaurants in the area.
However, you should be aware that from September 16 through May 15, dogs are allowed on the Boardwalk and the beach all day long, but during the summer season, they are only allowed on the beach between 6:00 pm and 8:30 am. You can view other beach rules and regulations here.
5. Arroyo Burro Beach Park - Santa Barbara, CA
The last, but most certainly not least, beach on our list is the Arroyo Burro Beach Park, known to the locals as Hendry’s Beach. This beach boasts plenty of long scenic walks, great swim spots, and warm baths at self-serve dog wash stations, so Fido can clean up after a long adventurous day.
It’s important to note, that there are portions of the beach where dogs need to be leashed, but can also go unleashed as well.
