7 Insane Underwater Hotels from Around the World

Pirates, as you may know, we have a special affinity for the ocean. That's why we were excited to see that there are so many underwater hotels around the world that you can book a night stay in. Follow us under the sea while we explore seven of them, from the luxurious to the wacky.

1. The Manta Resort — Pemba Island, Zanzibar, Tanzania

This is truly heaven on earth: a private suite suspended in the turquoise waters off the coast of Zanzibar. For $1,500 a night, you can enjoy an all-inclusive stay in this 3-level floating palace. There's a roof for sunbathing and stargazing, a covered lounge and bathroom, and the most important part: an underwater bedroom.

Watch all sorts of unusual fish stare back at you through the room's windows out onto the reef. At night, you can even turn on underwater spotlights to attract curious nocturnal marine life.

2. Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort — Rangali Island, Maldives

This 5-star hotel already exceeds many expectations when it comes to luxury, but where it truly shines is in its world-famous underwater restaurant. Situated 16 feet below the surface, this 12-seat restaurant may set you back $1000 for a two-person meal—but at least you can check it off your bucket list! Rumor has it that the restaurant is occasionally transformed into an underwater bedroom. This is the only time "sleeping with the fishes" is a personal choice.

The hotel is building a new 2-story underwater bungalow that will cost a cool $50,000 a night—as if the Maldives couldn't get any more luxurious.

3. Atlantis, The Palm — Dubai, UAE

In a city already renowned for luxe accommodations, these underwater suites certainly take the kelp-cake. Your window is actually set into the wall of a lagoon holding 65,000 marine creatures. Even the ensuite jacuzzi looks into the lagoon.

Keeping with the water theme, your room includes many amenities, like a dolphin encounter for two, and aquarium access—which you probably won't need.

4. Utter Inn Hotel — Västerås, Sweden

Taking a break from extravagance, this very small and basic hotel in Sweden has just one room. Conceived and created by artist Mikael Genberg, the barebones floating house has a toilet, a hot plate, a gas heater—oh yeah, and an underwater bedroom with two twin beds.

Don't expect to see Nemo and his friends swimming past your windows, but do expect a truly unique experience.

5. Resorts World Sentosa — Sentosa Island, Singapore

The Ocean Suites at this massive Singapore resort complex look into one of the largest aquariums in the whole world. The suites are two stories: one above the water, one below. You'll also get to enjoy an outdoor and an indoor jacuzzi, butler service, and more 5-star services.

It's also a great place to visit with kids, since it's right near Universal Studios Singapore and other family-friendly attractions.

6. Jules’ Undersea Lodge — Key Largo, Florida

This hotel is completely underwater, which means the only way to reach it is by scuba diving. This certainly makes it more exclusive than other options. A stay in this former underwater research facility comes with—we kid you not—an underwater pizza delivery.

You can even have a surprisingly affordable wedding ceremony. Seriously, everything's better under the sea.

7. Lovers Deep — St. Lucia, Caribbean

Okay, we're cheating a little bit. This isn't a hotel—it's a submarine, and it's not available for booking at the moment. Oh well...we'll just have to spend the nightly rate of $230,500 buying a pirate ship instead.

The brainchild of a British travel company, Lovers Deep was meant to be the ultimate Valentine's Day destination for that couple. You know, the couple that doesn't mind spending the equivalent of a house on renting a submarine with a fully customized interior, two-person shower, and aphrodisiac-laced menu.
